LA’s finest, Yacht Punk, describe themselves as ‘like Stephen King’s movie Maximum Overdrive took a handful of downers’. It’s an apt description for a group whom you can practically feel sulking merely from their music. Their third single ‘Existential Freakout’ has a low-fi grunge vibe that makes it hard to resist.
The song feels like a comedown, it’s the kind of thing that would be played at a house party, just as the night’s winding down. The vibe of ‘Existential Freakout’ is a jarring contrast to it’s title yet this shouldn’t come as a surprise as Graham Bockmiller of Yacht Punk explains “As far as the theme of the song, ‘freakout’ is a term that has a negative connotation, but I wanted to try and change into something pleasurable. I wanted the song to have a frantic energy like you’re on the verge of an emotional meltdown, but then transforms into an enjoyable panic attack.”

I love it!
