song review

Rookie debut single ‘Once’

Seemingly out of nowhere, a tiny little indie band direct-messaged me on Twitter, with the aim of getting me to listen to their debut tune, ‘Once’. That little band was Rookie, a Birmingham based four-piece with the brightest of futures.

Citing Catfish and the Bottlemen as one of their biggest influences, that impression really comes through when you listen to their new track. A lively beat coupled with engaging lyrics provide Rookie with a solid starting platform with their debut single.

Rookie brings a fresh twist on old ideals as they approach creating music with a focus on the lyrical meaning behind their music, which is evident in their debut, with the lyrics always being able to come to the foreground of the song despite how enticing the nifty beat of the tune is. The passion that the band put into the development of their lyrics only affects the track positively, with meaning being thrust upon every lyrics sung.

Their debut single only puts Rookie on a platform to push on and succeed over the next few months and years, with their maiden music video releasing this month to accompany their new track. This leaves the world at the mercy of this neat new indie band, who knows where they’ll be in five years from now.

You can listen to ‘Once’, the debut single of Rookie, here. You could even give them a follow on twitter if you fancy @RookieBandOff
