Cheeky chap, Tom Grennan has teased his upcoming debut album with new track ‘Barbed Wire’. His album Lighting Matches, is due for release July 6th. Grennan is making waves in the indie scene at the moment, selling out a UK tour, playing festivals all over Europe and announcing a date at London’s Brixton Academy, all before his debut album’s even out.
Newest single ‘Barbed Wire’ has some real guts behind it. Grennan explains that: “Barbed Wire is not a literal term, more of an idea that it’s a thing you shouldn’t go near or touch, a path you shouldn’t tread, a girl you maybe shouldn’t kiss, a chocolate bar you should avoid when on a diet etc. Barbed Wire was written when [he] felt trapped and isolated.”
The song is a lively number not unlike what George Ezra’s been up to recently or even that of Paolo Nutini. It’s a winning combo of big sounds, big lyrics and a massive voice. Over the past two years it has become more and more clear that Tom Grennan is the full package. The Bedford bred star is the embodiment of a young Robbie Williams. He has the voice, the moves and the cheeky grin.
Lighting Matches is due for release in July. Until then Give ‘Barbed Wire’ a listen here and let us know what you think with a comment. Catch Tom Grennan up and down the country at festivals over the summer.
