The Wombats just can’t seem to quit. After being one of the most talked about and favourably reviewed acts at Reading and Leeds this year, they’ve released a new track which comes from a soon to be released extended edition of their fourth album Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life.
The news of the extended album comes less than a week after the news of a big winter tour, no doubt to mark the new release. This tour features new scouse talent in the form of The Night Cafe who also got a slot on The Wombats’ last UK tour back in March.
The new single ‘Bee-Sting’ is the same haphazard, feeling sorry for yourself but dancing about it anyway kind of song that The Wombats are known for. Undoubtedly this is as offshoot of the original edition of Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life’s ‘Black Flamingo’, this track favouring an acoustic guitar over a electric and synth.
Perhaps the fact ‘Bee-Sting’ is an offshoot of the original version’s songs could be a hint at what’s to come for the rest of the extended album, fleshed out with acoustics, demos and these alternative versions of tracks rather than other tracks that just didn’t make the cut.
Give ‘Bee-Sting’ a listen here and keep your eyes peeled for news of the extended album. The Wombats are also going on a UK tour with an all-star lineup including Blaenavon and The Night Cafe.
