Indoor Pets are back! and just like that there’s a new single ready for the taking, or listening. This is their second release under the new name and their first under new label Wichita Recordings.
Cutting in on a nice smooth beat, Jamie Glass’s piercing vocals cut through the guitars until the big, crashing chorus comes bursting it, belting out “I’ll never get that hi”. Indoor Pets always manage to blend the best of so many parts of indie, pop punk and even bits of rock and grunge at times. The way the chugging of the guitars offsets the high pitched vocals works really well.
The song is an ode to underachievers. Playing out the story of the social outcast in high school, the ‘hi’ most likely alluding to being noticed by a girl. The song is lighter and bouncier than the likes of pop punk, sitting comfortably with bands like All American Rejects. The soaring final chorus suggests some sort of classic all American movie ending where the girl is begging to be noticed by the outcast. It’s a nice way to round it off.
Give the track a listen here and be sure to catch the band on tour with Bad Sounds next month.
