Retro Video Club are no strangers to producing octane fuelled garage rock. Having released their debut EP Back to Normality in 2015, the Edinburgh quartet have been edging towards success for a number of years: having recently sold out a headline gig at Edinburgh’s Mash House and bagging support slots with the likes of We Are Scientists, their flamboyant popularity is nothing but well deserved.
Earlier this week the band released their new single ‘3AM’. A powerful tour-de-force from the outset, the track features overdriven riffs pinned down by a polished bass line and the tight drumming of Kieran Burt.
Lead singer Liam Allison boasts his true colours, singing in his distinct Scottish accent, something that is an integral component of their sound, and really comes into its own in the chorus with a striking reverberating vocal phrase.
Gritty yet still perfectly clear cutting, Retro Video Club’s latest single just goes to show why these four Scots are a force to be reckoned with.
Listen to ‘3AM’ here, or catch them while you can on their UK tour.
