LUCIA have released their latest EP with eponymous single ‘Cheap Talk’ – and they want you to know they’re unimpressed. “One, two, three, cheap talk is killing me – shut up, shut up”, front woman Lucia Fairfull spits. The Glaswegian four-piece have blessed the track with riot grrrl sensibilities, grungy riffs and indie-pop ambition.
Their style simmers with rose-tinted nostalgia; sonically, ‘Cheap Talk’ comes from another time and place. Other tracks on the Cheap Talk EP similarly are sun drenched trips down memory lane such as ‘Summertime’ whilst ‘What Am I’ could be straight out of a Western.
The band have been fine-tuning their sound and expanding their repertoire over a summer of conquering the likes of TRNSMT and Electric Fields. There’s little wonder how the accolades for LUCIA just keep rolling in, with BBC Radio 1’s Hew Stephens considering them “as good as indie gets”. With leadership as powerful as Fairfull’s, melded with their flair for instrumentation, LUCIA are only just beginning to show you what they can do.
