Underdog favourites Blaenavon released new single ‘Catatonic Skinbag’ last night via Radio 1’s Indie Show midnight drop. Between the single and a sold out Omeara headliner in a matter of days, it would appear they’re right on track for a big comeback after their 2017 debut album That’s Your Lot.
The band recently issued a statement explaining the mental health issues frontman Ben Gregory experienced that lead to hospitalisation in late 2017, and then came to shape a lot of their new album which was written in 2018. Their sophomore album is called Everything That Makes You Happy and as of yet has no release date.
‘Catatonic Skinbag’ feels apt, and especially timely following all the drama of the Gilette advert. It deals with being the worst version of yourself and briefly about not knowing how to be a man. It sounds a bit new for Blaenavon but equally still fits their ‘loner but upbeat about it’ vibe.
