Holly Rees due for Canadian takeover with new single ‘Better’

WILL GORMAN

Life just hasn’t stopped for Holly Rees since landing in Canada a few months ago. Between tour dates she’s been invited to Canadian Music Week. The festival is a huge and Holly is one of two UK artists on the lineup.

To meet the demands of flying to Toronto for the event and then back to Vancouver again to re-commence touring, she’s set up an indiegogo page to crowd fund. (If you’re interested in donating then have a look here.)

The single, ‘Better’ comes to life with the assistance of The Breakfast Club, her recently assembled band from her December headline show. Whereas the original ‘Better’ from Ilex is a more cheery affair, the live version is something not far off Courtney Barnett’s most recent album Tell Me How You Really Feel, with more grit and soul behind it. Holly Rees’ lyrics are homely, lived in and in ‘Better’, sometimes they’re just what you needed to hear.

Listen to ‘Better’ right here and keep an eye out for the Text Me When You Get There EP, to be released on 3rd May.
